Sara
has been in love with music her whole life. Her family has
pictures of her when she was about 11 months old, and her dad is
"directing" her. Her dad loves music and is a great singer, and she
gets her love of music from him and also from her mom.
Sara’s
musical career began with piano lessons, which lasted about 7 years,
But she discovered in middle school and high school that her real love
was singing, and that she was a better singer than pianist. Being from
the Harrisonburg area, Sara attended Eastern Mennonite High School. At
EMHS, she was in the Touring Choir her junior and senior years. Being a
part of Touring Choir included a trip to Europe, visiting and singing
in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, and Italy.
Singing in some of the old cathedrals in Europe made her in awe of
music even more. She loves traveling, and has lived in Nicaragua for
around a total of 6 1/2 years, and has spent extensive time traveling
in other parts of Central America.
Sara joined the Chamber Singers
at Eastern Mennonite University her sophomore year and that has been a
rewarding experience. She auditioned for Shekinah that fall as well,
and was ecstatic when she made it! She’s only sung
with Shekinah for
about a semester because her junior year took her to Washington D.C. in
the fall and to the Middle East for a semester in the spring.
Even
though she’s only been a part of Shekinah for a little while,
she
already loves it and feels so blessed by the
experience. She is in
her senior year at EMU, and is very busy as a nursing student. But
being in Chamber Singers, and especially in Shekinah, gives her times
when she can relax and feel God's presence. Sara loves singing because
she feels more connected to God and to the people around her.
